Prospectus

S Ignatius College is a private government-aided high school run by the Jesuits of the Roman Catholic Church. The college offers education for boys in forms 1 to 6 and girls in forms 5 and 6.

St Ignatius is religious with a strong academic bias. The selection process is rigorous and uncompromising so that only the best make it from a wide selection of applicants at all levels. At form one, only 72 boys are selected. Only applicants in the top 20% of their school stand a chance of being selected into form one. At form 5, boys from outside St Ignatius average about 20%. The places wholly available to outsiders at this level are the twenty five girls’ spaces. By and large, only girls with not less than 6As at ‘O’ level make it. All ‘A’ level Science pupils specialise in Mathematics, Chemistry and either Biology or Physics.

St Ignatius College has a proud and illustrious academic record. The pass rate averages 98% plus. It is one of the schools with the highest proportion of students entering the faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering and Actuarial Science in Zimbabwe.

The college is wholly boarding with a total enrolment of 436 students. There are 4 hostels namely Junior House for forms 1 and 2, Middle House for forms 3 and 4, Senior House for form 5 and 6 boys as well as Maryward House for form 5 and 6 girls. Students provide their own bedding and toiletries. They also do their own laundry and general cleaning. All the boys use the main dining hall while the girls have their meals at Maryward house except for the school lunches. The teaching staff is highly qualified and of proven competences. The non-teaching staff is also diligent in ensuring the general upkeep of the school.

CO-CURRICULUM
The college has well maintained play fields. A wide variety of sports are offered and these include rugby, volleyball, hockey, soccer, basketball, athletics and swimming. Pupils are also involved in many clubs and society activities. These include quiz, drama, interact, First Aid, Library, Debate and Art. It is compulsory for every pupil to participate in at least one sport and one club each term.

CAREER GUIDANCE, COUNSELLING, SOCIAL, RELIGIOUS AND MORAL
Religious Education is a compulsory subject to all forms. The college has thriving careers guidance and counselling service. Pupils have formal classes for these issues. There is also provision for individual attention for personal growth matters.

While classroom teaching is compliant with te objectives of the national curriculum, the search for excellence and depth in teaching and learning is shaped by a Catholic vision of life.
